HEROES WEAR LIFEJACKETS

Heroes Wear Lifejackets is a free course offered to the public on the importance of lifejacket use. This free course is presented by a qualified boating safety professional for the general public, tourists and lifejacket wearers to become their very own ‘hero’ by representing lifesaving through their personal lifejacket use.

The course program covers the following items:

ONE TO SEVEN

  1. History
  2. Types
  3. Wear
  4. Inspection
  5. Retirement
  6. Pets
  7. Rules

SAVING LIVES

Participants will be familiar with the various types of lifejackets, types of activities required to wear a lifejacket, how to inspect for damages, protect and care, and retire their lifejacket when it’s no longer fit for service.

The seven segments of completion the participant completes a quiz. Quiz review questions will score the awareness level of the registrant.

REWARDS

  • Registrants are issued an identifying sticker of their participation from 1-7 of their scale rating.
  • Registrants who scale rate will be issued a certificate of participation for the Heroes Wear Lifejackets program.

Hero Segments

  1. 20 minutes each
  2. 140 minutes total or 2.3 hours

Our ancestors created unique traditions. In our maritime heritage our predecessors would never have dreamed of the luxuries provided to us by today's advances in technology. Our ancestors invented the first makeshift lifejacket in the form of cork: 


They did not have the hope of rescue that this modern generation enjoys, we have no excuse to be less than excellent.

EVOLVING TECHNOLOGY

As technologies evolved lifejackets have advanced and their capacities have improved dramatically. The US Coast Guard has continuously tested and developed methods to ensure the proper fit and type of lifejackets that should be worn.

Heroes Wear Lifejackets is an International Lifejacket program focusing on individuals who wear lifejackets, promote the use, care and function of a lifejacket for their particular use and area of expertise.
